Hi, I'm Patrick, but you can call me Pat. I grew up in North Kingstown, Rhode Island where I spent most of my free time playing sports such as ice hockey and flag football. I attended public school for most of my academic career until my Sophomore year of high school when I attended La Salle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island for the remainder of high school. At La Salle, I excelled academically, consistently performing exceptionally in the most difficult of classes as well as making significant contributions to the robotics and math teams.
I chose to continue my studies at the University of Washington where I graduated with a 3.52 GPA dual-majoring in Physics and Astronomy while being the goalie for the hockey team. The rigorous curriculum covered a wide range of topics including quantum mechanics, cosmology, and astrostatistics, preparing me for the next step of my academic career: Leiden University.
I am currently enrolled in an Astronomy Research Master's program at Leiden University. The program is research heavy with two ~9 month research projects with unrelated topics to each other. As I plan to pursue a PhD in astronomy, I hope that gaining research experience will give me an idea of if I enjoy what PhD research may be like. I believe that the research I do at Leiden will bolster my resume for PhD programs and will increase my chances of getting a position that suits me.
